Blasted data inputters :mad: they always have to screw my data up....My comma delimited file with three fields ( firstname,surname and address ) has been screwed up by people entering addresses like this (putting a comma in between the house number and the street name)

1-5 -- after 5th position add ,
6-10 -- after 10th position add ,
11-7 -- like wise..
Expecting output is:

We have a file with a unit seperator as the delimeter.
Here are the Sample lines from the file:
ASIA/PACIFIC Hong Kong FX 20070710 80900
ASIA/PACIFIC Hong Kong FX 20070710 80900/ 800129HK
This delimeter has the ascii value of \037.

hi
if comma delimeter missing in columns treat them as bad file and if it is not then gudfiles. only checking columns not data.
id,name,sal,deptno =======> gudfile
1,awa,200,10
2,aba,100,20
3,cdc,300,30

I have an awk command that uses the substr function - At the moment I know the length of the values so can use the example below i.e substr(i,0,1)

Need help on replacing every second instance of delimeter.
Scenario:
var="Name1,Value1,Name2,Value2,Name3,Value3,Name4,Value"
I want every second "," to replace with "|"
I tried like below
echo $var| sed 's/,/|/2'
But, it's not working.

xzcmp [cmp_options] file1 [file2] xzdiff [diff_options] file1 [file2] lzcmp [cmp_options] file1 [file2] lzdiff [diff_options] file1 [file2] DESCRIPTION
xzcmp and xdiff invoke cmp(1) or diff(1) on files compressed with xz(1), lzma(1), gzip(1), or bzip2(1). All options specified are passed directly to cmp or diff. If only one file is specified, then the files compared are file1 (which must have a suffix of a supported com- pression format) and file1 from which the compression format suffix has been stripped. If two files are specified, then they are uncom- pressed if necessary and fed to cmp(1) or diff(1). The exit status from cmp or diff is preserved.
