I have a shell script which select total count from a table and use its value in a if condition like below

tot=`sqlplus -s $connect_string << EOF

echo "Value is "$tot

On execution i get a ora error
ERROR: ORA-28002: the password will expire within x days
So my script fails saying

as the title says, I am after a simple script, which will open the Alert log from

DESCRIPTION
ndb_select_count prints the number of rows in one or more NDB tables. With a single table, the result is equivalent to that obtained by
using the MySQL statement SELECT COUNT(*) FROM tbl_name.
Usage
ndb_select_count [-c connect_string] -ddb_name tbl_name[, tbl_name2[, ...]]
