I have a shell script where a lot of the code is repeated. I wanted to make the code much more compact so I spoke to a guy and he suggested using arrays, like follows:
I like this, because not only is the code nice and short, but it stops repetition where operations are similar, for example downloading files.
I was just wondering if it would be alright to dual boot a machine with both UNIX using XTERM for the interface and windows 98 or if people consider this a bad idea? if you consider it bad do tell me some possible alternatives..also would it be better to get linux over pure unix? SYNOPSIS
script [-a] [filename]
DESCRIPTION
The script utility makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.
The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.
OPTIONS
The following option is supported:
-a Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.
NOTES
script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
