FTP = file transfer protocol.
You cannot execute anything via FTP.

SFTP = FTP via SSH tunnel.

So, if you are logging in via SFTP, you establish ssh connection. You don't need the ftp at all. The server is listening on the ssh port (standard 22) for incoming connections. Just ssh in, and you can execute scripts as your permissions allow.

Sftp- file not present in the remote location

I'm able to connect to the remote server (server_name). But when i'm transferring the files, its getting transferred. But the file is not there in the remote location. I tried with a zero byte and 5 byte file sftp6 -P <port-no> --password=file:///<file having the pwd>... (1 Reply)

sftp-server - SFTP server subsystem SYNOPSIS

sftp-server implements the server side of the SSH File Transfer Protocol as defined in the IETF draft-ietf-secsh-filexfer. sftp-server is a subsystem for sshd(1M) and must not be run directly. There are no options or config settings. To enable the sftp-server subsystem for sshd add the following to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server See sshd_config(4) for a description of the format and contents of that file. There is no relationship between the protocol used by sftp-server and the FTP protocol (RFC 959) provided by in.ftpd. EXIT STATUS
