on compilation:

Is there anything I can do to get rid of the warning?

Also, the full hex_key is 9abcdef012345678 which is different from what I used in the above code because of the 9 at the beginning. The output of this is 9223372036854775807
which is different from a result shown on a webpage that calculates hexadecimal numbers. All the outputs for the other hex_key values are consistent with the calculating website. Why is this number different?

and I am wondering why you subtract '0' and why you shift 4. Is it necessary to shift << by four each time you add a new hex digit?

ok, strtoull() was the function that gets the whole 16 hex digits. the unsigned long long type was what I should have been using.

NAME

       DROP TEXT SEARCH TEMPLATE - remove a text search template

SYNOPSIS

       DROP TEXT SEARCH TEMPLATE [ IF EXISTS ] name [ CASCADE | RESTRICT ]

DESCRIPTION

       DROP TEXT SEARCH TEMPLATE drops an existing text search template. You must be a superuser to use this command.

PARAMETERS

       IF EXISTS
	      Do not throw an error if the text search template does not exist.  A notice is issued in this case.

       name   The name (optionally schema-qualified) of an existing text search template.

       CASCADE
	      Automatically drop objects that depend on the text search template.

       RESTRICT
	      Refuse to drop the text search template if any objects depend on it.  This is the default.

EXAMPLES

       Remove the text search template thesaurus:

       DROP TEXT SEARCH TEMPLATE thesaurus;

       This command will not succeed if there are any existing text search dictionaries that use the template. Add CASCADE to drop such dictionar-
       ies along with the template.

COMPATIBILITY

       There is no DROP TEXT SEARCH TEMPLATE statement in the SQL standard.
