Bug things to consider
here's my two cents:

1) it is a SHAR - (SH)ell (AR)chive - file ... that's for sure - so "sharing" simply does not apply to it . It is a form of archiving - not sharing ;

2) make sure your HP-UX is 11.31 (64bits) ;

- try :

$ uname -a

3) make sure the filesystem containing your ".shar" file has "LARGEFILES" enabled ;

- try :

$ cd <parent-directory>
$ bdf .

- now take note of the LVOL name (first string) and grep it out of /etc/fstab ;

- then check the fstab line just output for the strings "largefiles"

4) make sure the filesystem containing your "shar" has plenty of free space for the extraction (at least 110% the size of the shar file) ;

* hint : the output of the `bdf' above tells it.

5) last, but not even a bit least - check if the shell being used for the extraction is a 64bit executable ;


- if you pass OK all tests above, you'll be able to extract your "shar" stuff ;

Some how the open(file,flag, acc) returns 0 and write to the screen, instead of the file ???

I am out of idea what to do to resolve the problem! I need to use the open(file, for.., access) function to write a file. Never have the situation like that: it is return 0 - zero. As a result all write(..) going to the screen! What the problem it could be? I do not even know... (2 Replies)

Before I delete any file in Unix, How can I check no open file handle is pointing to that file?

I know how to check if any file has a unix process using a file by looking at 'lsof <fullpath/filename>' command. I think using lsof is very expensive. NAME

       shape_tar - shapeTools RMS bundle up subsystem in a tar or shar archive

SYNOPSIS

	shape tar[VERSIONS=<version_selection_rule>] [ARCHIVE=<filename>]

       shape shar[VERSIONS=<version_selection_rule>] [ARCHIVE=<filename>]

DESCRIPTION

       Shape tar and shape shar create a tar or a shar archive containing all source components of the current node in the system tree. All source
       components listed in the COMPONENTS macro in the Makefile and the release identification file (VERSIONFILE) are	written  to  the  archive.
       Components of subsystems are not included in the archive file.

       The  VERSIONS  macro  may  be  set  to  specify a version selection rule to be active during archive file creation. Default is most_recent,
       selecting the most recent version of each component. See shape_stdrul(7) or the $(SHAPELIBPATH)/stdrules for other possible  settings.  You
       may also use self defined version selection rules as VERSIONS.

       ARCHIVE	is  the base name of the file where the output shall be written to. Default is $(SUBSYSTEMNAME). The output file gets the filename
       extension .tar (resp. .shar).  When ARCHIVE=- is given, data will be written to standard output.
