Hi all-
I'm trying to search through some .gz log files to verify certain feeds have passed through our app.
I have a small script that I wrote in hopes that I could automate the checking but haven't been able to get the zgrep to work. When I copy it to the command line directly it works... (2 Replies)

so in unix this command works works and shows me a list of directories
find . -name \*.xls -exec dirname {} \; | sort -u | > list.txt
but when i try running a perl script to run this command

Hey guys. Hopefully this is an easy one but having reference similar problems on the web I still can't fix it.
I am doing a recursive find and replace from a script. Of course I could just run the damn thing from the command line but it's bugging me now and want to get it working.

I am building a script that evaluates the difference between 2 files. Here is a command that does not work transparently.
Running this command in Terminal yields great results; however when I put that line in a .sh script, I get the errors shown below. Am I doing something silly?

I wish to replace "\\n" with a single white space.
The below does the job on command-line:
$ echo '/fin/app/scripts\\n/fin/app/01/sql' | sed -e 's#\\\\n# #g';
/fin/app/scripts /fin/app/01/sql

vncpasswd - change a VNC password SYNOPSIS
vncpasswd [passwd-file] DESCRIPTION
vncpasswd allows you to set the password used to access VNC desktops. It stores an obfuscated version of the password in the given file (default $HOME/.vnc/passwd). The vncserver script runs vncpasswd the first time you start a VNC desktop, and invokes Xvnc with the appro- priate -rfbauth option. vncviewer can also be given a password file to use via the -passwd option. The password must be at least six characters long, and only the first eight characters are significant. Note that the stored password is not encrypted securely - anyone who has access to this file can trivially find out the plaintext password, so vncpasswd always sets appro- priate permissions (read and write only by the owner). However, when accessing a VNC desktop a challenge-response mechanism is used over the wire making it hard for anyone to crack the password simply by snooping on the network. FILES
