what would a script include to find CPU's %system time high and user time high?

Thanks for your reply , I am like just few days of research new to scripting . I have Ubuntu installed (VirtualBox) and i need to create a simple script that would drive the system time , the user time , and elapsed time without affecting the first two (i.e. system time & user time) . Not sure how to start with this .
A part of my script where i need help is
case $choice in
1)
echo "Hi $USER"
echo ""
echo "Cpu's system time"
echo "---------------------------------------------"

I went through google and it says to use top or vmstat to know the cpu's system time .Not sure how Right i m . I have sysstat package installed ..

Hi guys,
I need a script that will generate a core of a process when the process uses high cpu for a sustained period?
So for example if a process is using greater than 80% cpu for more than 30 minutes do "gcore /var/tmp/process.core pid" (1 Reply)

There is a script which processes the incoming files from a particular directory and sleeps if it doesnt find any. I am running a Dell PE R815 with 4 x AMD 12 core CPUs with 128GB of RAM and a RAID 5 array of 6 SAS disks. This is an HPC application and is definitely CPU bound, however once I run 16 of these processes (thus pinning 16 cores) the work performed slows down dramatically, to maybe 5 or 10% of what... Hi All,
Yesterday my Linux server went panic and even a small command took a lot of time to run.
When i monitored pl find the below output
Cpu(s): 0.1%us, 98.4%sy, 0.0%ni, 1.5%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
the time spent on kernel mode is 98 % and also idle time is around 1.5 %...... (4 Replies)

I need to write a kshell script that shows all the process that consume 100% CPU (or more. strange but there are time that top shows higger value that 100) and they are active more than 5 minute.
The top command shows all the relevat information:

A colorgccrc configuration file is used to configure the highlighting of the compiler output from colorgcc. SYNTAX
Each line consists of a keyword designating a configuration variable. The keyword is followed by `:' and then one or several values (depending on the keyword). Lines beginning with a hash mark `#' are comments. CONFIGURATION VARIABLES
