Wish I'd never started on this one!

If you amend the input data to be properly aligned:

01COLTSMANNING18
02PATS BRADY  12
03PACKSROGERS 12

Then you can use fixed-position cut on the records as follows:

cat abc11.txt|while read line
do
        field1=`echo "${line}"|cut -c3-7`
        field2=`echo "${line}"|cut -c15-16`
        field3=`echo "${line}"|cut -c8-14`
        echo "${field1}|${field2}|${field3}"
done

With output:

COLTS|18|MANNING
PATS |12|BRADY  
PACKS|12|ROGERS


(I know that my code contains a cat command for the benefit of any trolls).

DESCRIPTION

       A ttk::frame widget is a container, used to group other widgets together.

STANDARD OPTIONS

       -class		     -cursor		  -takefocus
       -style

       See the ttk_widget manual entry for details on the standard options.

WIDGET-SPECIFIC OPTIONS
       [-borderwidth borderWidth]  The desired width of the widget border.  Defaults to 0.  [-relief relief] One of the standard Tk border styles:
       flat, groove, raised, ridge, solid, or sunken.  Defaults to flat.  [-padding padding] Additional padding  to  include  inside  the  border.
       [-width width]  If specified, the widget's requested width in pixels.  [-height height] If specified, the widget's requested height in pix-
       els.

WIDGET COMMAND

       Supports the standard widget commands configure, cget, identify, instate, and state; see ttk::widget(n).
