I have been trying to create a script that changes the user rights to read in the 'other' group across directories. The problem I'm having is that when i execute the script, the permissions of the directories remains the same.

I'd like to create a group on my Linux box & add a few users to it.
Is there a way to do so and restrict this group/users to have access to only one or directory trees?
Let's say i need this group to only have a read write access to only these two directories /opt/Virtu & /fsn/comers

What is the command to check the user's permission in UNIX ?
e.g: user in UNIX is "myuser"
The result should be number format. e.g: 755, 644, etc...

Here is the sample code I'm trying to execute. I see that the permission on the file is set to 755 always I want to change it to 777. Please help me with this.

Hi,
I have a Solaris (SunOS 5.10) installed, by default with the en_AU.UTF-8 locale. I want to change it to en_US.UTF-8
With AU, I have no issues whatsoever, so I installed the language package and now locale -a shows "en_US.UTF-8".

Hi,
I need to grant read permission to a normal user on sulog file on AIX 6.1.
As root I did acledit sulog and aclget shows "extended permissions" as "enabled" and normal user "splunk" has read permissions. When I try to access sulog as splunk user it won't allow and aclget for splunk user... (6 Replies)
