IMHO the person who created such layout had good reasons...
On what OS are you?
To answer your question, nother better than testing and see for yourself... because of what I wrote above, you dont delete you just unmount that filesystem, and see if all continues to run as previously, if so let a week pass then remove ( but I doubt...), if not, before remounting, ask yourself what could be the purpose of creating such a layout?
If you can answer correctly, you have learned an important duty appointed to system administrators...

I would like to ask or is it possible to dump a hex using dd from starting point to end point just like the "xxd -s 512 -l 512 <bin file>"
I know the redirect hexdump -C but i can't figure it out the combination options of dd.
