Why is it we see no vg02 lvols mounted? where is vg00/lvol10?
Have you noticed the difference between vg00 and vg02 (lvol names...)?
I suggest you use SAM (System Administration Manager, sam command) to go through the creation of such devices, for sam will check before execution (e.g. size...). Later, use command line, its faster...
I have no IA64 so menu may differ...
choose "Disk and File Systems", "Logical Volums" (Little delay: the system scans its HW...)
On the menu bar, choose "Create" then choose the VG, validate, then go to next option:
"Define new Logical Volume", a new widow will open:
choose lvol name
Give size...
It will create automatically the JFS Filesystem in it...
All the best

Hello,
I have logical volume group of 50GB, in which I have 2 logical volumes, LogVol01 and LogVol02, both are of 10GB.
If I extend LogVol01 further by 10GB, then it keeps the extended copy after logical volume 2. I want to know where it keeps this information

What is the typical AIX procedure for creating a logical volume from CLI.
I have mostly worked on HPUX so far and on which the typica steps are:

2: mkdir /dev/<myvg>
3: mknod /dev/<myvg>/group C 64 <0x030000>

Does anyone have any simple methods for moving a current logical volume from one volume group to another? I do not wish to move the data from one physical volume to another. Basically, I want to "relink" the logical volume to exist in a different volume group. Any ideas? (2 Replies)

lvremove
LVREMOVE(8) System Manager's Manual LVREMOVE(8)
NAME
lvremove - remove a logical volume
SYNOPSIS
lvremove [-A|--autobackup {y|n}] [-d|--debug] [-h|--help] [-t|--test] [-v|--verbose] [--version] [-f|--force] [--noudevsync] LogicalVol-
ume{Name|Path} [LogicalVolume{Name|Path}...]
DESCRIPTION
lvremove removes one or more logical volumes. Confirmation will be requested before deactivating any active logical volume prior to
removal. Logical volumes cannot be deactivated or removed while they are open (e.g. if they contain a mounted filesystem). Removing an
origin logical volume will also remove all dependent snapshots.
If the logical volume is clustered then it must be deactivated on all nodes in the cluster before it can be removed. A single lvchange com-
mand issued from one node can do this.
OPTIONS
See lvm(8) for common options.
-f, --force
Remove active logical volumes without confirmation.
--noudevsync
Disable udev synchronisation. The process will not wait for notification from udev. It will continue irrespective of any possible
udev processing in the background. You should only use this if udev is not running or has rules that ignore the devices LVM2 cre-
ates.
EXAMPLES
Remove the active logical volume lvol1 in volume group vg00 without asking for confirmation:
lvremove -f vg00/lvol1
Remove all logical volumes in volume group vg00:
lvremove vg00
