As far as I know Solaris 10 (sorry, I didn't mention my OS version before) comes with gcc but just an old version.
I'm not a sysadmin and I really don't know how is the normal way
Would you like to provide a link or an example about how is that, please?

AIM- Install Oracle 11g on Solaris using VMWare

I want to install gcc for Solaris 10 to an alternate location besides /usr/local/bin, so I can't use the pre-compiled package from sunfreeware.com.
So I assume I need to compile gcc for myself and specify --prefix.
