I am trying to use sed with substitute to replace a section of text in a fileA.
Question 1:
If I want to want replace the "search" string with "replace" string inside fileA. I understand that I can use
Code:
sed 's/search/replace' < fileA >fileB
I also tried to do <fileA >fileA, but it doesn't work. Why is that? I don't want an extra file, fileB.
Question 2:
My main question. Inside the comand sed 's/search/replace' < fileA >fileB, the string "search" and "replaced" are actually inside fileC and fileD. How do I write the command? Thanks!

Okay, title is kind of confusion, but basically, I have a lot of scripts on a server that I need to replace a ps command, however, the new ps command I'm trying to replace the current one with pipes to sed at one point. So now I am attempting to create another script that replaces that line.

I'm working with this command which I'm having trouble understanding it:
sed -e '1,$ s/SUB/N/g' < $1 > file.txt
Where SUB stand for an special character with code in ASCII is 0x1A, notepad read it as a right arrow.

DESCRIPTION
transmission-edit command-line utility to modify .torrent files' announce URLs
OPTIONS -h --help
Show a short help page and exit.
-a --add URL
Add an announce URL to the torrent's announce-list if it's not already in the list
-d --delete URL
Remove an announce URL from the torrent's announce-list
-r --replace search replace
Substring search-and-replace inside a torrent's announce URLs. This can be used to change an announce URL when the tracker moves or
your passcode changes.
EXAMPLES
Update a tracker passcode in all your torrents:
$ transmission-edit -r old-passcode new-passcode ~/.config/transmission/torrents/*.torrent
