Can you ksh run this and see if that changes things. The calculation line

((nextval=$prevval+1))

.... is a ksh function. Can you add
Code:
echo "\$nextval=$nextval"

.... after the calculation above and see what you get.

You may find that at the end, the removal of the comma is also ksh only too.
