Try replacing 'exit' with 'break'. And 'break' in last if-condition is not required. You may remove it. Also, please provide a sample input and required output. It'll help us understand the problem better.

Try this small 2-line script. It does same as initial code posted in post #1:

[root@hostname test]# cat test.sh
[ ! -e g2.txt ] && touch g1.txt
for val in $* ; do grep "^$val" g1.txt | cut -d'|' -f2 | tr -d , >> g2.txt; done

Instead of reading from user, enter the values as positional parameters.
Code:
[root@hostname test]# bash test.sh 4 1 2
[root@hostname test]
[root@hostname test]
[root@hostname test]# cat g2.txt
AddMycomputerIexploreandMynetworkplaceMyDocumentIcononDesktop
HideCDrive
HideRunButton
[root@hostname test]
[root@hostname test]

Hi, I just want to exit from function if some condition doesnt meet then control should go back to main program and start running from where it left.. NAME

       mongofiles - a simple GridFS interface

SYNOPSIS

       mongofiles [OPTIONS]

DESCRIPTION

       mongofiles is used to list, get, and insert files in the database.

EXAMPLES

       mongofiles list
	      lists files in test.fs.files

       mongofiles put README.txt
	      inserts the file README.txt into the collection test.fs.files

       mongofiles get photo.jpg
	      retrieves photo.jpg from test.fs.files and saves it locally

OPTIONS

       --help show usage information

       -h, --host HOST
	      mongo host to which to connect

       -d, --db DB
	      database to use (default DB=test)

       -c, --collection COLLECTION (default COLLECTION=fs.files)
	      collection to use

       --command [list|search|put|get]
	      execute a command

       --file FILE
	      filename for get or put

       list   list all files.  takes an optional filename.  the file has to start with the filename

       search search all files for something that contains the string
