To check if the file is empty
Code:
if [ -s "$i" ]
then
  echo "File is not empty"
else
  echo "File is empty"
fi

But then, CMD will have the file name and when you do a cat in the for loop, "i" will have contents of the file.

Or may be you want to check this...
