Hi, I'm running a program (Python) whose output I would like to redirect to a log. But the program calls a library (that I cannot change), which outputs all sorts of useless information.
I would like to redirect all output from my Python program into this log, except output that matches the useless information (for example, all useless information may begin with the word "STRING").
Right now, I call:
I tried piping ./program.py to grep -v, but this didn't work
How can I redirect and append stdout and stderr to a file when using cron? Here is my crontab file:
*/5 * * * * /dir/php /dir/process_fns.php >>& /dir/dump.txt
Cron gives me an 'unexpected character found in line' when trying to add my crontab file.

Zach Curtis

Hi
I am not if this is possible: is it possible in bach (or another shell) to redirect GLOBALLY the stdout/stderr channels to a file.
So, if I have a script
script.sh
cmd1
cmd2
cmd3
I want all stdout/stderr goes to a file. I know I can do:
./script.sh 1>file 2>&1

I want to use the "--totals" option in GNU tar for some reporting, however I have discovered that it writes the output to stderr not stdout and I would like to know why. This is running from BASH.
mkdir /tmp/test
touch /tmp/test/foo.file
cd /tmp/
tar --totals -clpzf test.tar.gz test 2>... (2 Replies)
EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out! Forgot to put backslashes in my perl script to not process literals!
Hi everyone. I am trying to have this command pass silently. (no output)
chsh -s /bin/sh news
Currently it outputs.
I've tried....

I came across and unexpected behavior with redirections in tcsh. I know, csh is not best for redirections, but I'd like to understand what is happening here.
I have following script (called out_to_streams.csh):
#!/bin/tcsh -f
echo Redirected to STDOUT > /dev/stdout

Dear all,
redirecting STDOUT & STDERR to file is quite simple, I'm currently using:
exec 1>>/tmp/tmp.log; exec 2>>/tmp/tmp.logBut during script execution I would like the output come back again to screen, how to do that?
Thanks

GLGETPROGRAMINFOLOG(3G) [FIXME: manual] GLGETPROGRAMINFOLOG(3G)NAME
glGetProgramInfoLog - Returns the information log for a program object
C SPECIFICATION
void glGetProgramInfoLog(GLuint program, GLsizei maxLength, GLsizei *length, GLchar *infoLog);
PARAMETERS
program
Specifies the program object whose information log is to be queried.
maxLength
Specifies the size of the character buffer for storing the returned information log.
length
Returns the length of the string returned in infoLog (excluding the null terminator).
infoLog
Specifies an array of characters that is used to return the information log.
DESCRIPTION
glGetProgramInfoLog returns the information log for the specified program object. The information log for a program object is modified when
the program object is linked or validated. The string that is returned will be null terminated.
glGetProgramInfoLog returns in infoLog as much of the information log as it can, up to a maximum of maxLength characters. The number of
characters actually returned, excluding the null termination character, is specified by length. If the length of the returned string is not
required, a value of NULL can be passed in the length argument. The size of the buffer required to store the returned information log can
be obtained by calling glGetProgram() with the value GL_INFO_LOG_LENGTH.
The information log for a program object is either an empty string, or a string containing information about the last link operation, or a
string containing information about the last validation operation. It may contain diagnostic messages, warning messages, and other
information. When a program object is created, its information log will be a string of length 0.
NOTES
The information log for a program object is the OpenGL implementer's primary mechanism for conveying information about linking and
validating. Therefore, the information log can be helpful to application developers during the development process, even when these
operations are successful. Application developers should not expect different OpenGL implementations to produce identical information logs.
ERRORS
GL_INVALID_VALUE is generated if program is not a value generated by OpenGL.
GL_INVALID_OPERATION is generated if program is not a program object.
GL_INVALID_VALUE is generated if maxLength is less than 0.

glGetProgram() with argument GL_INFO_LOG_LENGTH
