Operating Systems Solaris Looking for help with Solaris bootable CD Post 302564859 by christr on Saturday 15th of October 2011 01:09:58 AM

I would make sure he is getting the correct CDs/DVDs for the proper architecture (SPARC vs. x86) and is downloading off of the official web site. The latest is Solaris 10 u10.

Solaris Operating System - Get Solaris 10

Maybe he's not burning the image properly. CD Burner XP is a very good Windows burning software if he needs a free one.

Download CDBurnerXP 4.3.8.2631 - FileHippo.com

If he isn't familiar with Unix it could very well be user error, such as not understanding how to boot a CD from PROM.

He could also install Solaris into a VM using something such as Virtual Box, and practice with the x86 install of Solaris there. There is very little difference between the x86 and SPARC versions once the OS has started booting. The main difference is just x86's BIOS & Grub vs. SPARC's PROM.
