since your command date supports -d option, you can set the 7 days by this way.

  Day=`date -d "$d day ago " +%Y%m%d`
  file="fixed.out.$Day"
  if [ -f "$file.gz" ]; then 
      echo "$file.gz is exist"
  esle

done

Say I have (in psuedocode) For i=1 to 10 tar cvfb /... 5*i /junk(i) end What I mean is that I want each successive for loop to have the block size parameter be 5 times the current counter. NAME

       rdate - set system date from a remote host

SYNOPSIS

       rdate hostname

DESCRIPTION

       rdate sets the local date and time from the hostname given as an argument. You must have the authorization solaris.system.date on the local
       system. Typically, rdate is used in a startup script.

       The inetd daemon responds to rdate requests. To enable inetd response, the lines invoking the time command in inetd.conf must not  be  com-
       mented out.

USAGE

       The rdate command is IPv6-enabled. See ip6(7P).

       See attributes(5) for descriptions of the following attributes:
