Samba setup in virtual server environment Windows/ Linux
I have a home network set up that consists of a few windows clients and 3 centos, and 1 suse client. These are all virtual machines, VMware Workstation. One centos vm is set to be the Samba server. Do I need Samba set up on the other Linux clients?I have no problem seeing the windows clients but the centos and suse come and go. I am going to redo the whole Samba setup but I am not sure how to handle the other linux clients as far as setting up samba with them.
If all get Samba installed, the one acting as the actual server, would be the local master? Since I do not have active directory setup, just workgroup, do I need a domain master?
I have it working now but the Linux clients do not always connect. I know my setup has problems that's why I want to do a fresh setup. The reason for the serveral centos vm's is one is the dns server, the other mail and ftp, the last is web. I am going to make the dns server also the samba server.
The setup works really well for the dns, ftp and web. I want samba for the ability to transfer files easily between servers and clients.

NAME
tdbbackup - tool for backing up and for validating the integrity of samba .tdb files
SYNOPSIS
tdbbackup [-ssuffix] [-v] [-h]
DESCRIPTION
This tool is part of the samba(1) suite.
tdbbackup is a tool that may be used to backup samba .tdb files. This tool may also be used to verify the integrity of the .tdb files prior
to samba startup or during normal operation. If it finds file damage and it finds a prior backup the backup file will be restored.

-s suffix
The -s option allows the adminisistrator to specify a file backup extension. This way it is possible to keep a history of tdb backup
files by using a new suffix for each backup.
-v
The -v will check the database for damages (currupt data) which if detected causes the backup to be restored.
COMMANDS
GENERAL INFORMATION
The tdbbackup utility can safely be run at any time. It was designed so that it can be used at any time to validate the integrity of tdb
files, even during Samba operation. Typical usage for the command will be:
tdbbackup [-s suffix] *.tdb
Before restarting samba the following command may be run to validate .tdb files:
tdbbackup -v [-s suffix] *.tdb
Samba .tdb files are stored in various locations, be sure to run backup all .tdb file on the system. Important files includes:
