Samba setup in virtual server environment Windows/ Linux
I have a home network set up that consists of a few windows clients and 3 centos, and 1 suse client. These are all virtual machines, VMware Workstation. One centos vm is set to be the Samba server. Do I need Samba set up on the other Linux clients?I have no problem seeing the windows clients but the centos and suse come and go. I am going to redo the whole Samba setup but I am not sure how to handle the other linux clients as far as setting up samba with them.
If all get Samba installed, the one acting as the actual server, would be the local master? Since I do not have active directory setup, just workgroup, do I need a domain master?
I have it working now but the Linux clients do not always connect. I know my setup has problems that's why I want to do a fresh setup. The reason for the serveral centos vm's is one is the dns server, the other mail and ftp, the last is web. I am going to make the dns server also the samba server.
The setup works really well for the dns, ftp and web. I want samba for the ability to transfer files easily between servers and clients.
