If its days or weeks, then probably I cannot afford that. I'll write my C program then and run it in parallel. MATLAB in the first place gave up "Not Enough Memory"
This is a computational challenge, I believe and C can handle this very well. I'll paste my C code here when I am done with that.

Hello,
I want to extract several columns and rows from a huge tab delimited file
for example: I want to print from from column 3 to 68 till row number 30.
I have tried using cut command but it was extracting whole 3rd and 68th column.
Please suggest a solution.

paste - merge lines of files
SYNOPSIS
paste [OPTION]... [FILE]...
DESCRIPTION
Write lines consisting of the sequentially corresponding lines from each FILE, separated by TABs, to standard output. With no FILE, or
when FILE is -, read standard input.
Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
-d, --delimiters=LIST
reuse characters from LIST instead of TABs
-s, --serial
paste one file at a time instead of in parallel
--help display this help and exit
--version
output version information and exit
