Hi,
Does any one know how to avoid the scenario where awk ignores the fields having only spaces or empty fields?
for instance,
Data: "a","b","c","d",""," "
code:
awk -F, '{ print NF }' File
the output I get is 4 instead of 6 do you know how to avoid this? (6 Replies)

Hello
I have a file like this
a,b,c,1,2,3,d,e,f,,,,g,h,i,,,,j,k,l
and using awk 'FS="'"{print $9,$10,$11}' does not work as I was hoping. I would like the empty fieds, i.e. between the two comma to be interpreted as a zero. is this possible?
I would like to get f 0 0 out of the above... (1 Reply)

REMOTE is the name of a remote, as described in the lircd configuration file.
CODE is the name of a remote control key of REMOTE, as it appears in the lircd configuration file.
NUM is the transmitter number of the hardware device.
For the LIST DIRECTIVE, REMOTE and/or CODE can be empty:

The SIMULATE command only works if it has been explicitly enabled in lircd.
