search replace with loop and variable

thanks but it has to include the for loop variable.
example of file as is :
the rain in spain falls mainly (098 grass is green )999 the sun is out
what it needs to change to with the for loop's variables inserted:
the rain in spain falls mainly (1 grass is green )2 the sun is out
I can't get how to amalgamate the loop and the exact awk or sed in one go
thanks. Also, the quotes,are not 'around' anything. they are just two different arbitrary characters as markers

I am using sed in a for loop to replace text in a 100MB file. I have about 55,000 entries to convert in a csv file with two entries per line. Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1). AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like @include getopt.awk in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path.
