Are you serious? Windows had no proper disk cache before this? 
That would explain a lot actually...
[edit] Did some testing with Windows XP, 3G of RAM, and a 1GB file. Windows XP obviously has disk cache to get read speeds of one gigabyte a second, though perhaps the terminology isn't quite the same across the board.

This might be a strange request, but does anyone have any idea on a simple shell script that would use more and more memory as it ran? Like a purposeful leak.
