But why doing it the hard way ?

The OP windows OS is flawlessly connecting to the Internet because it is very likely configured to use DHCP, which automatically does all the configuration.

Just do it the same with Solaris:

rm /etc/hostname.rge0 /etc/resolv.conv /etc/defaultrouter 
touch /etc/dhcp.rge0
ifconfig rge0 dhcp start

install-solaris install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation, install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer.
