Hello to all,
On aix, I want to identify a term on a line in a file and then add a word at the end of the line identified. I do not want the word to be added when the line contains the symbol "#".
I use the following command, but it deletes the term identified then adds the word.

It is very simple to remove a hyphen from a word anywhere in that word using a simple sed command (sed -i 's/-//g' filename), but I am not able to figure out how to do this:
For example,
apple
-orange
tree
pipe-
banana-shake

What my output should look like:
apple
orange

I'm attempting to replace a substring that contains a hyphen and not having much success, can anyone point out where i'm going wrong or suggest an alternative.

I've been looking through the forums for awhile now and looking at the man page for grep and egrep and not seeming to find this scenario so it might not be possible but figured I'd throw it out to get some ideas.

pgmkernel(1) General Commands Manual pgmkernel(1)NAME
pgmkernel - generate a convolution kernel
SYNOPSIS
pgmkernel [ -weight w ] width [ height ]
DESCRIPTION
Generates a portable graymap array of size width x height (or width x width if height is not specified) to be used as a convolution file by
pnmconvol. The data in the convolution array K are computed according to the formula:
K(i,j) = 1 / ( 1 + w * sqrt((i-width/2)^2 + (j-height/2)^2))
where w is a coefficient specified via the -weight flag, and width and height are the X and Y filter sizes.
The output PGM file is always written out in ASCII format.
OPTIONS
The optional -weight flag should be a real number greater than -1. The default value is 6.0.
BUGS
The computation time is proportional to width * height. This increases rapidly with the increase of the kernel size. A better approach
could be using a FFT in these cases.
