1981 my school had a Perkin-Elmer running some UNIX flavour I don't remember today. There was a classroom with about twenty terminals and another room for doing homework with ten more. These ten terminals where ocupied almost around the clock. Only during the last two years of the Oberstufe (sort of sixth form) pupils were allowed to use the equippment. When we were too young for using the terminals officially we lurked around the elder students peeping their accounts and passwords. So the first thing I learned was not Pascal or C as intended by the curriculum but how to play "Star Trek" on the console. The second thing I learned was how to patch the code to rise energy and the number of photon torpedos to blast the Klingons without having to return to base... what an evil hacker I was Smilie

Lost contact to Unix from about 1985 till 1993 when I got into contact with both Linux and AIX. Picked up a job in the IT in 1996 and sticked to AIX since. I still learn something new about AIX almost every week.

NAME

       smfi_setconn() - sets the socket for filter to communicate with sendmail

SYNOPSIS

PARAMETERS

       oconn	 Specifies the address of the desired communication socket.  The address must be a NULL-terminated string in the following format:

		 Specifies a named pipe.

		 Specifies an IPV4 socket, using either a
		      hostname or an ip-address.

		 Specifies an IPV6 socket, using either a
		      hostname or an ip-address..

DESCRIPTION

       The routine sets the socket through which the filter must communicate with must be called only once before the function.

   Notes
       Filters must not be run as root when communicating over UNIX/local domain sockets.

       The  permissions  for  UNIX/local  sockets must be set to 0600 (read/write permission only for the owner of the socket) or 0660 (read/write
       permission for the owner and group of the socket).  These permissions are useful when the RunAsUser option is used.

       The permissions for a UNIX/local domain socket are determined using the the command, which must be set to 007 or 077.

       Some operating systems, such as Solaris, do not use the permissions of the socket.  Therefore, place the socket in a protected directory in
       such systems.

RETURN VALUE

       does not fail due to an invalid address.  The failure can only be detected in the routine.
