I have a file which has special characters. I can't see them when I "vi" the file. But I am sure there are some special un seen characters. How can I see them?

how do i unescape special characters in Unix.
Suppose i've a file named -xyz.txt, how do I remove the file.
Ofcourse Icant give rm -xyz.txt thats not gonna work.
We can go in regular expression like this ls | grep -e '-'xyz.txt | rm; but I'd like to know any simpler way than this.

When I open a file in vi, I see the following characters:
\302\240
Can someone explain what these characters mean. Is it ASCII format? I need to trim those characters from a file.

The command is used to modify the value for system name and/or the node name by using the appropriate option(s).
The command attempts to change the parameter values in both the running kernel and the system configuration to cross reboots. A temporary
change affects only the running kernel.
Options
The command supports the following options:
Changes the system name (for example, HP-UX) in the
field of the structure where name is the new system name and consists of alphanumeric characters and the special
characters dash, underbar, and dollar sign.
Changes the name in the
field of the structure where node specifies the new node name and consists of alphanumeric characters and the special
characters dash, underbar, and dollar sign.
Signifies a temporary change.
