NAME
phones - File containing the remote host phone number database SYNOPSIS
/etc/phones The /etc/phones file contains the system-wide private phone numbers for the tip(1) program. DESCRIPTION
This file is normally unreadable, and so may contain privileged information. The format of the file is a series of lines of the form: sys- temname phone-number where systemname is defined in the /etc/remote file and phone-number is the system phone number terminated only by a comma or by the end of the line. Only one phone number per line is permitted. However, if more than one line in the file contains the same system name, tip will attempt to dial each one in turn, until it establishes a connection. EXAMPLES
The following example shows the entry in /etc/phones for the system, zeus: zeus 9=555-9898 In this example, the = sign (or an asterisk) forces the autocall units to pause and wait for a second dial tone, when going through an exchange. The = is required by the DF02-AC (an asterisk would be required by the BIZCOMP 1030). RELATED INFORMATION
Commands: tip(1). Files: remote(4). delim off phones(4)
