The answer, I suppose, largely depends on the meaning of the question.

Does it mean when the earth ceases to exist? Or does it mean when life as we know it ceases to exist?

For the latter, I would fancy humans destroying themselves before aliens had half a chance.

For the former, I'd subscribe to "the universe doesn't have the gravitational force to continue expanding and will eventually implode into the singularity from whence it came" theory (which other, more notable, people have more eloquently put than I just did Smilie)

By the time any of this happens, I should have posted my tax return. Phew.

Comments on "How Will the World End?"

I have read the sun-expansion scenario numerous places but I've never read any suggestion that the earth's orbit would increase to avoid being scorched. What mechanism would push it out? As for creating a black hole by the LHC, the whole concept is silly so any number of reasons would rule it... (9 Replies)

NAME
Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML -- turn Pod into XML SYNOPSIS
perl -MPod::Simple::DumpAsXML -e "exit Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML->filter(shift)->any_errata_seen" thingy.pod DESCRIPTION
Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML is a subclass of Pod::Simple that parses Pod and turns it into indented and wrapped XML. This class is of interest to people writing Pod formatters based on Pod::Simple. Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML inherits methods from Pod::Simple. SEE ALSO
Pod::Simple::XMLOutStream is rather like this class. Pod::Simple::XMLOutStream's output is space-padded in a way that's better for sending to an XML processor (that is, it has no ignorable whitespace). But Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML's output is much more human-readable, being (more-or-less) one token per line, with line-wrapping. Pod::Simple::DumpAsText is rather like this class, except that it doesn't dump with XML syntax. Try them and see which one you like best! Pod::Simple, Pod::Simple::DumpAsXML The older libraries Pod::PXML, Pod::XML, Pod::SAX SUPPORT
