GREP/CUT/AWK to Arrays

hi people,

I have a text file containing data, seperated by TAB. I want to process this tab'ed data as variable. how can I assign this?

21aaa 22000 23aaa 24aaa 25aaa 26aaa 27aaa
31aaa 32000 33aaa 34aaa 35aaa 36aaa 37aaa

I want to fetch, lets say, "54aaa" (5th row, 4th col) as a variable to be able to process it. then I will call it as $qweasd=nameofthisvaribale. I have tried with grep and cut but no result as I want.

You can assign it to variable qweasd like this:

but I wonder, what about if my data is seperated by SPACE, or DOT, or COMMA? which parameter in this code specifies the TAB filter? can you give example for, lets say, SPACE?

NAME

       zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression

SYNOPSIS

       zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename...

DESCRIPTION

       Zgrep  is used to invoke the grep on compress'ed or gzip'ed files. All options specified are passed directly to grep.  If no file is speci-
       fied, then the standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep.  Otherwise the given files are uncompressed	if  necessary  and
       fed to grep.

       If  zgrep  is invoked as zegrep or zfgrep then egrep or fgrep is used instead of grep.  If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses
       it as the grep program to be invoked. For example:

	   for sh:  GREP=fgrep	zgrep string files
	   for csh: (setenv GREP fgrep; zgrep string files)
