Disk read and write speed.
Being a novice user to linux i m little unaware of how would i check disk read write speed.
One of my mate is suggesting to create a file using dd command and check how much time it takes to create a 30 gb file .
I think this has a little sense however i would also like to take your reviews about the same.
This is how i m going to test the write speed.
'For write
This will create a 30 gb file in X seconds.
by calculating Diskspace in kb / Second i will get the actual write speed in kb/s .

Would simply like to write data (no audio) to a CD/RW disk. The disk drive states CD/RW on the front but don't know for sure if the software is configured to recognize it as a writable disk. For me 16x CD write speed is okay.
I have old hardware which was able to write DVDs at 1x, back in previous linux version.
Now, I dont get speed of less than 4x.

qscan is the linux console tool for error correction measuring with optical devices. The related plugin allows to use vendor specific com-

Use -S option before, if you are unsure which speeds are supported

set measurement speed to selected value.
Use -S option before, if you don't know what speeds are supported by your device.
Don't use this with -r or -w option.
-t, --test [rt|wt|errc|ft|jb|ta]
select the q-check you want to be proceeded. Not all tests are supported by all devices.

Proceed an error correction scan on device /dev/sr2 with 5x speed.
qscan -d /dev/sr0 -t wt -s 12
Proceed a write performance test in simulation mode on device /dev/sr0 (dummy mode) with 12x speed
