No, didn't give up for lack of reply here, etc. After a couple of days of research I found a few posts (other forums) that said it wasn't possible or possible anymore. So I just added that to my post above. It had nothing to do with the five hours here. I am glad I posted this then before I stopped trying to do it, lol. Thanks for those links.

Well I tried both and the biggest problem I had was that in order to go further it would break GDM and Plymouth. Neither link worked at all. I did get the usplash-theme-debian installed but it broke the log out screen (I just mean it was gone except for the moving dots ) Everything still worked fine. When I booted the Ubuntu usplash was still there however.
Here is an example of one thing I was doing and the wall I kept hitting. This is a little different then what it read before, but basically the same. I am tired so I am not going any further on this right now. I don't want to blow up my computer. I wonder if they changed something in Ubuntu so we would be forced to look at purple all the time. Might be some devs weird purple obsession, forcing it on us all

First, I love how the reply works here. Rather then a new one underneath it adds to the last one. I wish more boards did that. Ok, back to the issue.
It seems for some reason, whether it has to do with Gnome or Ubuntu, I can't do what I want at this time. No big deal really. I decided after grub comes up I am going to tape a picture of the splash image I actually want until I hear the sound of the log in screen coming up...
I am sure this issue will be resolved soon enough. If I find an answer or if/when it is fixed I will post it here.
