Thank you again for your timely reply.

What I want is that the output is just the same as input.

So if I got a file
Code:
cat > data1 <<EOF
a b c
e
 
f
EOF

I put it into a variable

Code:
set x = ( "`cat data1`" )

Then I can do some business check on each row of the variable x, and output x changing nothing if possible.

So the output should be:

Code:
a b c
e
 
f

Do you have any idea?

       suspend - shell built-in function to halt the current shell

SYNOPSIS

   sh
       suspend

   csh
       suspend

   ksh
       suspend

DESCRIPTION

   sh
       Stops the execution of the current shell (but not if it is the login shell).

   csh
       Stop the shell in its tracks, much as if it had been sent a stop signal with ^Z. This is most often used to stop shells started by su.

   ksh
