Yeah the code works gud. But the value of x and var turns out null.
Any idea why.. infact var should atleast be 0 since its been initialized
Firstly, the variable "var" is declared in the anonymous PL/SQL block. It is not a shell variable in the caller environment. So, I'd think its scope would be local to the PL/SQL block, and you wouldn't see it in the Unix script.
Secondly, in order to set the value of "x", you may want to run sqlplus in "silent" mode. And also set a few SQL*Plus report environment parameters so as to ensure that only the value of "var" is printed. (Other stuff like the blurb, the feedback message etc. should not be printed.)
Try this -
Code:
#!/usr/bin/sh
ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0
ORACLE_SID=$1
echo "Date is Fridayyyyy: $TODAY"
x=$($ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus -sreport/report@$ORACLE_SID <<EOF
set heading off pages 0 feedback off
SET SERVEROUT ON SIZE 100000
declare
var number:=0;
BEGIN
select count(*)
into var
from report.CUBE_BUILD_INDICATOR;
dbms_output.put_line(var);
END;
/
exit;
EOF )
echo 'done 1'
echo var
echo $var
echo 'done 2'
echo x
echo $x

DBIx::Class::Storage::DBI::Oracle::WhereJoins(3pm) User Contributed Perl Documentation DBIx::Class::Storage::DBI::Oracle::WhereJoins(3pm)NAME
DBIx::Class::Storage::DBI::Oracle::WhereJoins - Oracle joins in WHERE syntax support (instead of ANSI).
PURPOSE
This module is used with Oracle < 9.0 due to lack of support for standard ANSI join syntax.
SYNOPSIS
DBIx::Class should automagically detect Oracle and use this module with no work from you.
DESCRIPTION
This class implements Oracle's WhereJoin support. Instead of:
SELECT x FROM y JOIN z ON y.id = z.id
It will write:
SELECT x FROM y, z WHERE y.id = z.id
It should properly support left joins, and right joins. Full outer joins are not possible due to the fact that Oracle requires the entire
query be written to union the results of a left and right join, and by the time this module is called to create the where query and table
definition part of the SQL query, it's already too late.
METHODS
See DBIx::Class::SQLMaker::OracleJoins for implementation details.
BUGS
Does not support full outer joins. Probably lots more.
