it worked with me too on a redhat os, the first one was executed from solaris 10.
also i've tried the comm command and it worked as i wanted.
curiosity is forcing me again to ask what is the reason for this? is it a bug? and does that affect creating the updated version of the original file using a batch?

i have a line like this in my script
IP=`get_IP <hostname> | awk '{ print $1 }'
echo $IP
the problem is get_IP <hostname> returns data formated as follows:
ip 1.1.1.1 name server_name
the code above returns
1.1.1.1 server_name and i just need the 1.1.1.1

install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation,
install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer.
The following minimum requirements for physical memory dictate which features are available during installation:
For SPARC machines:
128 MB
Minimum physical memory for all installation types
