I think this is what you exactly need,

Code:
sed -e "s/[\]/\\\\\n/g"  filename

Here we need to use the consecutive '\' to achieve the '\'.Because I we used one '\' then the '\n' will get escaped and to print the '\' we need to escape it.So there is one '\' needed .

So When we use some escape character with the '\' we need to be careful.

If you want your original file to get affect by the changes use the following,
