First of all is ask you why are you planning to install two linux distros on the same box, don't misunderstand me Fedora is a great distro but IMHO it would be me better if you are planing to learn to install OpenSolaris.

Regarding the drivers, if Ubuntu is working fine and you choose to install Fedora it would work without any issue.

About OpenSolais you'll have to check the OpenSolaris HCL and look for your laptop to check if it's supported.

gpilot-install-file - gnome-pilot file conduit scheduler SYNOPSIS
gpilot-install-file [--now|--later] files... DESCRIPTION
gpilot-install-file is a command line tool for scheduling files to be installed on a Palm PDA by the gnome-pilot file conduilt. OPTIONS
In addition to a list of files to be installed gpilot-install-file takes the following options: --now Schedule the file(s) for installation and wait for the user to synchronise immediately. --later Schedule the file(s) for installation and exit.
