Sorry, this question might look stupid but I have no idea how to install a network card.
My server is a Dell PowerEdge T105 with Debian 5.0 Lenny.
My network card is a Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express.
I've plugged the card innside my server and I can see it is detected with this command:
Now if I run ifconfig, I only have eth0 and eth1. But my new card is the 3rd one so it should appear as eth2. How can I make it happen? Should I install some drivers?
I have a UnixWare 2 server that has an ISA 3Com NIC that has just a BNC connector on it. I want to remove this and install an ISA 3Com NIC that has a BNC/RJ45 connector. What steps do I have to go through to successfully complete this? Thye are almost the exact same cards except for the... (1 Reply)
I have been having trouble with my sis900 neytwork card in slacwkare linux. I tried to modprobe the sis900, it didnt give me any errors but it didnt load it. so I put in a realtek 8139 network card and tried it too. These are the errors i get with the two cards when trying to do insmod on either of... (3 Replies)

I've had no luck with help on linuxquestions so I figured I'd try here. I'm using debian etch.
The problem is that I can not install my network card because it says:

I have the kernel-headers installed.

MIIBUS(4) BSD Kernel Interfaces Manual MIIBUS(4)NAME
miibus -- IEEE 802.3 Media Independent Interface network bus
SYNOPSIS
For most network interface cards (NIC):
device miibus
DESCRIPTION
The miibus driver provides an interconnection between the Media Access Control (MAC) sublayer, the Physical Layer entities (PHY), Station
Management (STA) entities, and the PHY Layer as defined by the IEEE 802.3 Standard.
The miibus layer allows network device drivers to share common support code for various external PHY devices. Most 10/100 network interface
cards either use an MII transceiver or have built-in transceivers that can be programmed using an MII interface. The miibus driver currently
handles all of the media detection, selection, and reporting using the ifmedia interface. A generic driver has been included for all PHYs
that are not handled by a specific driver, this is possible because all 10/100 PHYs implement the same general register set along with their
vendor specific register set.
The following network device drivers use the miibus interface:

COMPATIBILITY
The implementation of miibus was originally intended to have similar API interfaces to BSD/OS 3.0 and NetBSD, but as a result are not well
behaved newbus device drivers.
