In my shell scripts, I always create a logfile by adding the following line in the beginning:
exec >file.log 2>&1
This in turn directs all the output to this logfile till the script executes.
But now, I have to write some output to the monitor for the users.

for eg:
my "w" command output is like below.

I'm trying to create a program that will read a file and then check the file for each letter of the alphabet and then output the letter and the number of times it appears in the file, into a new file... this is what i have so far but it's not working.. if anyone could help that would be nice!... Does any one have any idea how to compare interval ranges of 2 files.
finding 1-4 (1,2,3,4) of input2 in input1 of same key "a" values (5-10, 30-40, 45-60, 80-90, 100-120 ). Obviously 1-4 is not one of the range with in input1 a. so it should give out of range.

DESCRIPTION
tracetop shows the top 'n' flows every second
-f bpf filter
Count only packets that match tcpdump style bpf filter
-i interval
Wait interval seconds between updates. (default 2).
--percent
Display flow bytes and packets as a percentage of total traffic
--bits-per-second
Display flow bandwidth as the number of bits per second.
