Hi otheus ,
following are the contents of my pam.conf file

I commented the line " passwd password required libpam_unix.so.1 "

But it didnt help.. Also we dont have /etc/shadow file nor /etc/pam_chauthtok . Ii verified the other servers also ..

Pls help

I have a one line bat script run off a XP machine that tar's and compresses some files from a Sol 8 box. hi Actually the normal user as the permission of executing the passwd command due to suid program... eg consider the two users (normal user) as tom & jerry! when tom executes command as " passwd tom" no issue here... pam_deny.so DESCRIPTION
This module can be used to deny access. It always indicates a failure to the application through the PAM framework. It might be suitable for using for default (the OTHER) entries. OPTIONS
