Ok got it fixed....
# cat /tmp/test.ldif

As you can see there is space between 'dn:' and 'ou=' in all the lines
Initially I was placing '\*' after [[:space:]] as shown below:

grep -i '^dn:[[:space:]]\*\(ou=[^,]\+,\)\{1\} ou=Company, ou=Personal, o=paragkalra.com' ous.ldif
Then I removed the black slash and it worked:

grep -i '^dn:[[:space:]]*\(ou=[^,]\+,\)\{1\} ou=Company, ou=Personal, o=paragkalra.com' ous.ldif

I have a string "disk0 with a trailing white space after it" but I want to get rid of this white space from right to left so that I am left with "disk0" only.
Using sed 's/ $//g' doesn't seem to work
Any ideas ?

vecheck - check for virtual partition environment
