Count the no of lines between two words
Please help in the following problem:
Input is:
Pritam
123
456
Patil
myname
youname
Pritam
myproject
thisproject
iclic
Patil
remaining text
some more text
I need the command which will display the no of lines between two words in the whole file.
e.g. Display all the no of lines between 'Pritam' and 'Patil'.
so out put should be 2, 3. (there r 2 lines between two words, subsequently there r 3 lines)

I need to tail -f a file output stream and I need to get only lines that contains "get" and "point" in the same line. It doesn't matter the order.
Then I need only the text BEFORE "point".

I need to count the number of errors associated with the two words occurring in the file. It's about counting the occurrences of the word "error" for where is the word "index.js". As such the command should look like. Please kindly help. I was trying: grep "error" log.txt | wc -l (1 Reply)

split - split a file into pieces
SYNOPSIS
split [OPTION]... [INPUT [PREFIX]]
DESCRIPTION
Output fixed-size pieces of INPUT to PREFIXaa, PREFIXab, ...; default size is 1000 lines, and default PREFIX is `x'. With no INPUT, or
when INPUT is -, read standard input.
Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
-a, --suffix-length=N
use suffixes of length N (default 2)
-b, --bytes=SIZE
put SIZE bytes per output file
-C, --line-bytes=SIZE
put at most SIZE bytes of lines per output file
-d, --numeric-suffixes
use numeric suffixes instead of alphabetic
-l, --lines=NUMBER
put NUMBER lines per output file
--verbose
print a diagnostic just before each output file is opened
--help display this help and exit
--version
output version information and exit
SIZE may have a multiplier suffix: b 512, kB 1000, K 1024, MB 1000*1000, M 1024*1024, GB 1000*1000*1000, G 1024*1024*1024, and so on for T,
