however the following does not and according to the book "Exploring Expect" it should be equivalent:
I'm using expect version 5.43.0 and the date on the book is 1996.
Another issue I have that I can not understand why is:
in response to "ls -l file",
the log file ends up with "file found", however,
the log file ends up with nada!
Again the book says it should work with the anchor but not for me. To ensure that the d really is the first character in the out put from ls I did "ls -l file | od -C" and the dump shows the d as first with, no leading unprintable characters much less any printable ones!
These may seem like trivial issues but I need to make the processing more complex and understanding what is going on would really help.
Thanks...twk

Hello to all...this is my first post (so please go easy). :)
I feel pretty solid at expect scripting, but I'm running into an issue that I'm not able to wrap my head around. I wrote a script that is a little advanced for logging into a remote Linux machine and changing text in a file using sed.... (2 Replies)
Hello hello, did a quick search and didn't turn up anything helpful. I've got a book I'm sure has the answers, but I don't think I'll have time to finish it before this all has to work, so here goes~ if this isn't a good place to post and someone could direct me to another forum I'd appreciate... This Expect script provides expect with a list of IP addresses to Cisco IPS sensors and commands to configure Cisco IPS sensors. The user, password, IP addresses, prompt regex, etc. have been anonymized. In general this script will log into the sensors and send commands successfully but there are... (1 Reply)
Hi all,
I'm new with expect. I'm developing a quick script to check my sudo access on 100 servers.
So using !/bin/usr/expect doesn't work. So decided to use it as :
expect -c "set timeout -1;\
spawn ssh $IPADDR -l $USERID ;\
match_max 100000;\
expect {

I'm fairly new to scripting so this might not be possible.
I am using Expect with Cisco switches and need to capture the string after finding the expect request. For example, when I issue "show version" on a Nexus switch, I'm looking to capture the current firmware version:

Locale::Codes::LangExt(3) User Contributed Perl Documentation Locale::Codes::LangExt(3)NAME
Locale::Codes::LangExt - standard codes for language extension identification
SYNOPSIS
use Locale::Codes::LangExt;
$lext = code2langext('acm'); # $lext gets 'Mesopotamian Arabic'
$code = langext2code('Mesopotamian Arabic'); # $code gets 'acm'
@codes = all_langext_codes();
@names = all_langext_names();
DESCRIPTION
The "Locale::Codes::LangExt" module provides access to standard codes used for identifying language extensions, such as those as defined in
the IANA language registry.
Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default IANA language
registry codes will be used.
SUPPORTED CODE SETS
There are several different code sets you can use for identifying language extensions. A code set may be specified using either a name, or
a constant that is automatically exported by this module.
For example, the two are equivalent:
$lext = code2langext('acm','alpha');
$lext = code2langext('acm',LOCALE_LANGEXT_ALPHA);
The codesets currently supported are:
alpha
This is the set of three-letter (lowercase) codes from the IANA language registry, such as 'acm' for Mesopotamian Arabic.
This is the default code set.

Locale::Codes::LangExt::add_langext_code_alias ( CODE ,NEW_CODE [,CODESET] )

These routines are all documented in the Locale::Codes::API man page.
