You are right, this thread isn't about the standard and you indeed provided an interesting use case where quoting the curly braces has an effect.
It does because quotes are themselves quoted and thus propagated to the exec command.

I have line in input file as below:

I have a bunch of random character lines like ABCEDFG. I want to find all lines with "A" and then change any "E" to "X" in the same line. ALL lines with "A" will have an "X" somewhere in it. $ find . -path "*_nobackup*" -prune -iname "*.PDF"
They all returned the match:
