Hello,
I have a file with a date field with various lengths. For example:
m/d/yyyy hh:mm or h:mm
mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm or h:mm
Is there a way using sed or awk to change the field to m/d/y ? I don't need the hours and minutes in that field, just the date in the proper format.

In the awk below I am trying to copy the entire contents of $6 there may be multiple values seperated by a ;, to $8, if $8 is . (lines 1 and 3 are examples). If that condition $8 is not . Graphics::Primitive::Insets - Space between things
DESCRIPTION
Graphics::Primitive::Insets represents the amount of space that surrounds something. This object can be used to represent either padding
or margins (in the CSS sense, one being inside the bounding box, the other being outside)
SYNOPSIS

Constructor

Instance Methods
as_array
Return these insets as an array in the form of top, right, bottom and left.

Set/Get the inset from the bottom.

Determine if these Insets are equal to another.

Set/Get the inset from the left.

Set/Get the inset from the right.

zero
