Hi there.
I have an MacBookPro and I want to install Darwin ports.
I downloaded & installed MacPorts-1.7.0.pkg and now I don't know what to do.
I tried:
Code:
# port -d selfupdate
....
error 1
Command output: checking build system type... i686-apple-darwin9.7.0
checking host system type... i686-apple-darwin9.7.0
checking target system type... i686-apple-darwin9.7.0
checking MacPorts version... 1.7.1
checking for sw_vers... sw_vers
checking Mac OS X version... 10.5.7
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
as I understood I need gcc or another C++ compiler.
Where can I get gcc for mac?
I am using Darwin on Mac OS X.I.I (new to both Unix and C++).
I downloaded the ncurses library from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gnu-darwin/ncurses-5.2.tgz,
but I don't know what to do with it now. Stuffit has expanded the archive, but I still have the original .tgz as well (if that's... (1 Reply)

Hello,
I was curious about how one would go about installing gnome on darwin. As far as I know it must be harder than FreeBSD because there doesn't seem to be any ports for it.
Would you have to first set up a build environment (GCC etc...) and then compile it from scratch? or is there an... (3 Replies)
This is the first time I've come across this issue
sed -i 's/"//g' iscrmireturns
sed: 1: "iscrmi": command i expects \ followed by textApparently the -i option is non-standard FreeBSD extensions - does that mean it's not available on Darwin? Strange (1 Reply)
I'm going through my book on bash and have come to a section on Shell Variables. The editing mode variables don't seem to be there, unless I'm missing something. It says no manual entry for them -- commands like HISTCMD, HISTCONTROL, HISTIGNORE, HISTFILE, HISTFILESIZE, HISTSIZE, HISTTIMEFORMAT,... (0 Replies)

nfs_portmon - enable/disable the NFS server's source port verification check
VALUES
Failsafe
Default
Allowed values
DESCRIPTION
controls some security checking that the NFS server can do in an attempt to enforce integrity on the part of its clients. The NFS server
can check to see whether the source port from which a request was sent is a reserved port; a reserved port is a port whose port number is
less then 1024. For BSD-based systems, these ports are reserved for processes being run by privileged users. This checking helps prevent
users from writing their own RPC-based applications which defeat the access checking that the NFS server uses.
Who Is Expected to Change This Tunable?
The distributed file system administrator should examine the value of this parameter if he or she wishes to prevent malicious users from
gaining access to files by using an NFS server they would not ordinarily be able to access.
Restrictions on Changing
The tunable is dynamic; any change will take effect immediately on the running system.
The reserved port notion is not universally supported. Therefore, interoperability problems might result if this checking is enabled.
What Are the Side Effects of Enabling This Check?
Some NFS clients may not be able to connect to the NFS server.
WARNINGS
All HP-UX kernel tunable parameters are release specific. This parameter may be removed or have its meaning changed in future releases of
HP-UX.
Installation of optional kernel software, from HP or other vendors, may cause changes to tunable parameter values. After installation,
some tunable parameters may no longer be at the default or recommended values. For information about the effects of installation on tun-
able values, consult the documentation for the kernel software being installed. For information about optional kernel software that was
factory installed on your system, see at
