Forgetting the -e (it works fine without it), I purposely wrote "failed" in lower case. Why purposely replace a word with a lowercase first letter with one with an uppercase letter?!

I need to search for a keyword UTF-16 in a list of files if that keyword is found then i need to convert the file to UTF-8 format using iconv command. After this i should substitute the UTF-16 keyword inside the file to UTF-8. Please suggest how to do this in shell scripting. (11 Replies)

       towupper(), towlower() - translate wide characters

SYNOPSIS

   Remarks:
       These  functions  are compliant with the XPG4 Worldwide Portability Interface wide-character conversion functions.  They parallel the 8-bit
       character conversion functions defined in conv(3C).

DESCRIPTION
